The Yankees/Red Sox Series makes for great TV. What a way to start the MLB 2010 season! Let the games begin!
CC Sabathia is set to be assigned his seventh career Opening Day start, drawing the nod to open New York's defense of its 27th World Series title. Sabathia was 19-8 with a 3.37 ERA and two complete games in 34 starts for the Yankees last year, tying for the Major League lead in wins and matching his personal career high, set in 2007 with the Indians. He was 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA in his first six starts, then went 18-5 with a 3.06 ERA in 28 starts from May 8 through the end of the season. Sabathia was 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts against the Red Sox in 2009, Since 2007, Sabathia is 5-6 with a 5.03 ERA in the month of April while allowing more walks than any other month. Batters are hitting .283 off Sabathia in the Month of April.
Josh Beckett is set to make his fifth Opening Day (night) start of his career, and second in a Boston uniform against a team that has his number of late. Beckett was awesome in last year's Opener against the Rays, firing seven innings of two-hit, one-run ball to earn the win. Beckett was below average against New York last year, going 2-1 with a 5.34 ERA in five starts. In 17 career starts against the Yanks, Beckett is 9-5 with a 5.33 ERA. He is coming off a solid season for the Bo Sox, in which he went 17-6 with a 3.86 ERA. He was an All-Star for the second time, notching career highs in innings (212 1/3), strikeouts (199) and complete games (four). Since 2007, Beckett is 9-4 with a 4.52 ERA in the month of April while holding batters to a .240 average.
Weather should be nice with clear skies, light winds, and temps dropping into the 50s during the game. I would lean to Boston in this game.
Good Luck, Jeff
