Masters Plays – This is an amazing lineup with only 6 players lined at 25- to 1 or better. Of course, that is the public belief that Tiger will win nearly automatically and that the only true contender is Mickelson. Since Mickelson did not look good last week it stands to reason that once Tiger gets the lead on Saturday, the Green Jacket will be then be tailored made for Tiger.
Currently at the new bodog site, Tiger is 1-1, Mickelson 10-1, Singh 18-1, Harrington and Scott 25-1, Ogilvy 20-1, and the Els and Retief at 28-1. This is essentially suggesting that if the Masters were played 10 times, Tiger would win 9 of them. Tiger is the World Best and one of the best ever – if not the best ever – but this is a MAJOR and with MAJORS come underdog story lines like last year’s winner Zack Johnson.
First, I like the field bet at 16-1. The course is wet and playing long. David Toms said that he actually hit a driver that backed up on the #9 fairway. The length that this course demands when wet narrows the field even further. The weather will be dry until Saturday when showers and a possible thunderstorm could make conditions long and tough. Temps in the mid 80’s on Friday though will keep enough players in contention as the course does dry out. Masters organization has the equipment to dry those greens out and they will be far faster than current conditions.
I am a bit miffed that Tiger is not playing the par 3 course for the fans and that he feels it is a distraction to be prepared for the Tournament. Well, he does owe the fans something and having some afternoon fun on the par 3 course can’t be that big a deal, since Nicholas, Palmer, Hogan, Sneed, Hagen, and countless our Hall of Famers never missed it.
Ok, let's make some money. Here are my head to head plays. Stricker at -130 over Zack Johnson. Couples -130 over Verplank. Ogilvy -130 over Furyk. Ok, Looking at 3 ball. Fred Couples at 7/5 over Jerry Kelly and Anders Hanson. Jeev Milka Singh at 3-1 over Harrington and Wier. Stricker at 8/5 over Singh and Cink. Now, for the winning plays. Take the Field at 16-1, Harrington at 25-1, and Adam Scott at 25-1. Good luck.
