Today leads us to the preview of # USC Trojans. Another year finds USC near the top of the preseason rankings. Seems like every year they are a fixture near the top! The Trojans, coming off an 11-2 season, just have to score some points, and that usually isn't a problem for a team with six straight top-four finishes, BCS bowls and Pac-10 titles. They lose 10 starters to the NLF but have depth and talent that should step in and pick up for those losses.
Offensively they will be very talented but lack some experience. At QB Sanchez has mobility and is getting better throwing in the pocket. He's a keeper, and so are the seven all-American type backs and receivers, such as Patrick Turner, Vidal Hazelton and David Ausberry. They can spread the field like few can. This offense will be high powered and get better as the season progresses. There offensive line should be solid all season. They seem to turn out pro linemen every year. Offense will only get better as the season progresses. Hopefully they will be far enough along to give us all a great game week 2 vs OSU Buckeyes.
Defensively the Trojans were second nationally in total defense (allowing 273 yards per game) and scoring (16 points), while giving up just 84 rushing yards and getting 3.5 sacks per game. As good as those numbers look, USC appears to be even better with seven starters back, including linebacker Rey Maualuga, Rose Bowl MVP Brian Cushing, safeties Taylor Mays and Kevin Ellison and cornerbacks Cary Harris and Shareece Wright. This is going to be an aggressive unit that doesn't make many mistakes. The defense is loaded with at least 5 future NFL starters. Look for them to carry the Trojans this year.
Overall this team has been through the wars before. They have a tough early season schedule. They go to UVA to start the season and then welcome the OSU Buckeyes into the Coliseum week 2. They should win both of these games which will set them up for a run to the BCS championship game. Don’t look for any let down from this team BCS championship is in there future.
Tomorrow we will preview the #3 OSU Buckeyes!
