Richard Lee, the poker pro who finished 6th in last year's World Series of Poker, will be charged with operating an online gambling site. The website in question took sports bets.
According to CardPlayer.com, the district attorney’s office of Bexar County, Texas, and the San Antonio police department have been investigating Lee for more than a year. They claim Lee and four business partners were behind www.betbsbnow.com, which booked sports bets. The charge, which was also levied against the supposed business partners, is a misdemeanor, which carry up to a year in jail, a fine of $4,000, or both, although the plea deal will probably stop the four men from going to jail.
Lee's home in San Antonio was raided last year. Police spokesman Joe Rios told WOAI at the time, “Our vice detectives have been conducting a comprehensive investigation where they believe proceeds from illegal gambling have bought a lot of items in this house.”
Rios told Card Player that an Internet gambling website was operated from the house.
“We’re not talking $20 to $30, we’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Rios said. “It was run like an online gambling site.”
